Fabric for Freedom

The issue

For too long businesses have built supply chains to drive financial profits at the expense of people and the environment. Fashion is the 2nd largest industry with slavery within its supply chains and in southern India, over 200,000 girls are trafficked to work in clothing production.

2 million tonnes of clothing and textiles are thrown away each year in the UK and 80% of textile waste goes to landfill.

We’re not accounting for nature or the cost to society in the garments that we’re wearing.

Our solution

Fabric For Freedom creates authentic, contemporary clothing collections. We challenge and change the current fashion industry model by creating an example of how a fashion brand should operate, to shift buying habits and tackle the fast fashion mentality.

We want to see supply chains free from poverty, fear, violence and slavery. Our clothes are a mix of certified organic and recycled materials, including using up wastage that would have gone to landfill. All products are ethically produced in UK factories and we are working with charities combatting modern slavery.

Next steps

We’ve proven our concept over the last year of trading, selling over 100 items and building an Instagram following of over 4,000. We have participated in 5 popup shops and completed a successful Fashion Week where one of our collections sold out within 3 days. We’ve recently launched a new ten-piece collection in two stores during November and are working toward a full launch party and press day in February Fashion Week.

We are looking for investment to do the following:

• Increase online traffic through a new website and a paid advertising strategy

• Host 5 popup shops in the first quarter of 2020

• Double our presence in independent fashion boutiques

• Develop national wholesale retailer relationships
